Participants warmly welcomed the honorable guest speaker Secretary Neric O. Acosta, Presidential Adviser on Environmental Protection, where he gave an inspiring and challenging talk entitled, “Climate Change - How to turn problems into opportunities”. He discussed the status of our environment and emphasized the importance of caring for the planet. “Ecology is the basis of economy, not the other way around,” explained Secretary Acosta.
At the end of the event, Vice Gov. Lacbain announced the launching of International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) on September 20, 2014 for Zambales, spearheaded by ICC Zone Captain and the Sales & Marketing Manager of The Lighthouse Marina Resort, Zedrik Avecilla. Last year's ICC was attended by over 26,000 participants from Zambales, Olongapo and Subic Bay combined. This year, more volunteers are expected to be mobilized from all towns to help clean the coastlines and waterways of Zambales.
Moreover, during the activity, Hon. Lacbain together with Secretary Acosta and Mr. Avecilla decided to have a bigger and more meaningful dialogue that will involve the entire LGU of Zambales including Olongapo City and Subic Bay Freeport Zone together with business owners to discuss the current problems of the environment at the same time solutions on how to tackle them. This will be held sometime in September before the ICC on September 20 at Subic Bay Freeport Zone. This will be a joint project of the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority, the Provincial Government of Zambales and the Municipal Government of Olongapo.
